Trail Report – Rausch Creek 26 August 2012

Rausch Creek Sunday August 26th. After eating a great scrambled eggs and sausage breakfast accompanied by awesome tasting coffee, we were ready to hit the trails again. If you recall the day before we had a good size group of Rovers, a couple of Jeeps, and Randy Wood in his Bronco. On this day, it would only be Keith Robertson and I (Rich Martinez). I checked in with Charles Galpin to find they had just returned from the RC shop and welded Jason's drag link together for his drive home.

Randy only planned to wheel Saturday and the Rovers had already wheeled Friday and Saturday so it was only Keith and I. As we were getting ready to a gentleman from New Jersey, Chris Arie, approached me to ask if he could join us. Of course we welcomed him and his passenger, Joe, in their Toyota FJ. It turns out it was Chris' second day of wheeling EVER!

We decided to hit some blue trails so we headed over to the West property again and hit trail J-1 which had some pretty cool views of the property. We stayed on J-1 to the very end then hit trail 12A. From 12A we took the J access road to trail 10-B. Chris was a quick learner as Keith and I gave him pointers and guided him over sections he didn't think he could do. He soon had the confidence to make it through obstacles without guidance. At the bottom of 10-A there is a mud pit that gives you 3 options. Stay right and you get into a deep mud hole. Go left and the mud is not deep but it's thick. Attempt the middle and you pretty much have solid ground, no issue. Chris watched me take the easy way because I hate mud. When it was Chris' turn he wanted to follow my easy path but I suggested he try the deep mud, so he plunged right in and got stuck in bumper deep gooey stuff. Luckily for all of us he was prepared. He had a winch and strap. So we quickly hooked him up and he enjoyed using the winch for the first time. From there we stopped for lunch and played on some of the rocks we found on trail 18.

From Trail 18 we decided to head back to the East side and hit one more trail before calling it a day. We decided on Yellow Jacket, Trail 4. We all made our way thru the rocks until we go to the ridge. Keith and I scouted it out and made our way up and over without any problems. Chris wisely decided to take the bypass.

That concluded our day and weekend at RC. Back at camp we said goodbye to Chris and Joe, Keith packed up all his gear as I loaded the trailer and prepared to leave.
