Rich Martinez – CJ-5 & 1 passenger
Charles Gaplin – D90 & 3 passengers
Chip Woods – 04 TJ
After lunch we headed out of Camp 2 about 1:40. We headed out Cove Road, past the Snow Tubing area and turned left towards KGB trails. After climbing the rocky trail for a short time we turned left to the first hill climb. It was a mix of large and small rocks, and had plenty of loose rocks and dirt to loose traction on. I was able to make the climb with a few stops to back up a foot or two to get some momentum to pass the tougher spots. Rich ended up pulling a winch line to get past one of the larger rocks that grabbed his CJ. Charles needed some rock stacking but also made it to the top of the climb. Chip decided to skip this spot after seeing the trouble 3 fully locked rigs had and his TJ is open front and rear. The other three of us took the loop to the side to go back down and met up with Chip where we started. There were several other trails leading off near the top, and I believe one of them is a bail out for the bottom of Insanity. Back at the bottom we turned left and headed back up the trail. There were more intersections, and we traveled the uphill and more difficult way at each intersection. We ended up on Pinnacle Ridge trail between Insanity and Bunny Hole. We traveled up to Bunny to run the easier downhill side. I believe this section is used for the Comp Course sometimes. I tried a hard line and had to reroute my XJ to get through. Charles got hung up on a large rock and slipped to the side and was boxed in by a several foot drop and a large tree. He pulled a winch line and was able to get out of the predicament. We all gathered back on Pinnacle Trail heading back down. Chip noticed a trail that was recently cut by the West Virginia Crawlers, so we took that trail. WV Crawlers trail is a twisty trail through the woods with some wet spots and some rocky areas. It dropped us on Middle Road near V Trail. We headed down Middle Road to get back to Camp 2. On the way back we passed the Big rigs heading out for some fun. It was good to see Dan Peck again, as well as all the other OCC members there. It was raining off and on all day, so we got wet.
Happy Motoring,
