WWW 2013 - Trail Report Saturday 2/16/13 - Green Group
After working all morning it was time to wheel. I was leading the green group which included 12 vehicles.
Josh Maradiaga and Scott LeLacheur - Green YJ
Russ Wallace - Black JK 2D Rubicon
Mike Wallace and Chris - Red JK 2D Rubicon
Joshua Sprinkle, Wes Lundsford, Melissa Burn, and Anne Ward - Black JK 4D
Steve Knutzen and Steve M. - Red XJ
Steve and Renee Corliss - Red XJ
Dave Doyle - Red CJ5
John and Terry Crowe - Tan YJ
Dwayne Squires and Steve Backus - Black JK 4D
Jeff Duesel - Silver LJ
Alan Staiman - Red CJ7
Jeff Eppolite - Green TJ
We all lined up and headed out around the campground and straight to Trail B. We continued the entire length of Trail B until it ended and then we turned left onto Trail E to enter the South Property. We again took Trail E to the end and made the right turn onto Trail S. At this point Jeff had been asking Alan if he was having any problems (since he was falling well behind), to which Alan responded that he was fine, just taking his time. About the time the front of the group made it to the lunch spot, there was no sign of Alan or Jeff E. After trying numerous time to reach them on the CB, I started to walk back to find them. While walking back to the beginning of Trail S, I finally got a hold of Alan, who had led Jeff E. the wrong direction on Trail S (Trail S is one way in a counter clockwise direction, like NASCAR). I made it back to my vehicle, and we started moving again while Alan and Jeff E. turned around to backtrack and catch up.
As we continued on, a few of the guys had mentioned trying to play around on Lake Christy. When we got there we got out to evaluate the situation and decided that the conditions were not the best with all of the steep slopes still completely snow covered. we finished up the rest of Trail S while taking a few bowls and hills just off of S along the way. We then took Trail E back to Trail B. Off of Trail B we turned right onto Trail C for a change of scenery on the way back. We ran into Rich's group at Yellow Jacket Ridge and stopped to check it out. While we hung out there for a little watching Rich's group, Steve C., Jeff E., Alan and I got a chance to play around there for a little bit as well. Mike rode with me which I think he enjoyed. We then continued along Trail C, still taking optional obstacle as we went. We were almost to the end of Trail C, when I noticed a shortcut back to where Trails A and K meet. Since we were running
short of time to be back before 5pm, we went that way. It was higher than a green, but with a little spotting, everyone made it through. From there, it was just driving back around the competition area to the campground. It was just after 5pm and time to get ready for dinner.
All in all, we made it through everything that was tried without any damage. Alan had to winch once. Joshua had to get tugged once, and pick and pushed twice. And Steve K. had to back out a couple of times due to less aggressive tires. There was nothing too hard and I believe everyone had a good time.
