In my case I got word of the need for help via the list. Someone else started the thread but Wayne Lau posted a message saying to contact Kelly Vergot if they can help. I did and she called and gave me the phone number of a nurse friend who needed a ride. I called her and got her address and time of pickup and clarified when she'd need to be picked up. I picked her up a 6:10 Saturday morning and had her at work by 6:40 (20 minutes early). The roads were really not that bad but the key was there were little to no cars on the road at that time. We had a tentative pickup time of 3:30 but at some point in the day she called to warn me that the hospital may force her to stay overnight although she was trying to get permission to leave. At some point she called and said she could leave but I was in the middle of dragging my kids around the block so it took me a little while to give them a last few pulls and head down and got there about 5 minutes late. The conditions were worse and there was more traffic but otherwise not bad at all and got her home before 4:30 and I was home before 5pm.
BTW, I pulled a TJ out of a snowbank last night. Other than that all the people I saw needing help were either while I was trying to get to the hospital or take the nurse back and didn't get an opportunity to help. One guy had spun a cherokee into a curb and broken his rear axle/hub and declined help. Oh I did hand push some no-clearance vehicle through some snow when going for gas.
It would be nice to get involved in a more organized fashion. I would definitely have made a few more runs if it was needed, and it seems we could probably get 2 or 3 people in a trip if it was organized.
